Work Placement
A contrast in tempo and approach
My experience at Emma Cook’s compared to that of Robert Carey-Williams
was a lot calmer because it was post show (Autumn/Winter 2005).
The production of the A/W 2005 was under way and there was a lot to
keep us busy. I am now skilled at cutting out intricate details in leather!
I cut out leather birds, butterflies and leaves for the leather appliqués
on the dresses and tops (see detail blowups of necklines, below left).
There were a lot of orders for these dresses!
Emma’s work is a real contrast to Robert’s. The contrast meant that
I learned different techniques and the different ways the businesses were
run.
My experience at Emma’s was very enjoyable and I went on errands to
many interesting places.
Having had work experience both sides of a fashion show gave me an overall
view of the workings of a fashion cycle.
