KERRY O'BRINE - GRADUATE CATWALK COLLECTION

STATEMENT OF INTENT

FOR YEAR 3 CATWALK COLLECTION (part 1)

The Mood, Inspiration and designs

The collection is A/W and the mood is dark, mysterious, sexy and sophisticated. My initial research was into armoury and it's panelling details. The overlapping and shaped panels that helped the knights move in their armour are what inspired me. The concept developed and these details became exaggerated shapes and clean lines. There's also a large structural aspect to some of the designs.

Fabrics and Colour

The detail in the cut and panelling means the colour palette needs to be kept simple. I have chosen grey, as it's a colour that looks sharp and sleek and refers back to the armoury in my research. Within the collection there will be different tones of grey. The different materials I will use will also add to the interest. There will be contrasting textures, finishes, fabric compositions and fibres. The fabrics will be luxurious and nice to touch. I will use silks and wools and will be considering felts, suiting weaves, satin, taffeta, flannel and knits.

The collection was shown on the Ravensbourne Catwalk show on June 7th '06 at London Graduate Fashion Week.

The Woman

The outfits portray a powerful woman. She is confident and curvaceous, feminine and sophisticated. She could be a famous actress or singer of any age (Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich). She wants to stand out in the crowd but still look sophisticated.
